DESCRIPTION:
The Pomona Electronics Model 4000 is a direct reading, self contained, high voltage tester designed for the safe measurement of voltages up to 36,000 volts DC. It is a compact, light weight instrument which employs all of the latest materials and design features, in addition to conventional disc barriers, for greater electrical isolation of the handle from the metal probe tip. Designed for convenience, the instrument incorporates a volt meter which is built into the probe assembly thus eliminating the requirements for additional equipment.

The Pomona Electronics Model 4000 can only be used to measure DC voltage. Do not attempt to measure AC voltage with this instrument.


OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

WARNIG:
High voltage power supplies generate po-tentials which are extremely dangerous. Extreme caution should be exercised when measuring any high yoltage, especially those which are not genrated from a pulse- operated or RF type surly.

1. Insure that the voltage tester is clean, dry, and dust free.
2 Connect the ground lead of the voltage tester to the low side of the power supply under test. If servicing a television recelver, connect the ground lead to the chassis
3. Hold the voltage tester the handle and touch the metal probe tip to the high voltage test point. The meter willndicate the potential directly in kilo-volts.

CAUTION:
1. Do not attempt measun ments without first at- taching alligator clip to thassis.
2. In order to prevent damge to the meter when not in use, ALWAYS alle slide switch to return to the "off" position.

MAINTENANCE:
The Pomona Electronic High Voltage Tester Model 4000 is designed provide trouble free service. If the tester malfnetions for any reason, check the following:
1. Ground lead
2. Connections at tip handle and meter
3. Multiplier resistor
4. Meter movement TRON

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS TO BE OBSERVED
WHILE WORKING WITH HIGH VOLTAGE:

Although the Model 4000 is designed to minimize the possibility of shock, it is imperative that the user know and observe the safety precautions re-quired for measurement of high voltages.
The basic safety precautions which should be observed are as follows:
1. Insure that the voltage tester is clean, free of cracks and that there are no other signs of damage to it. Keep the voltage tester free of dirt. grit, grease, and mosture. It is recommended that the voltage teste be cleaned prior to each use, and when not in use, keep it storedbin a clear dry container, similar to the one supplied at purchase. (Clear portion of Probe Body may be unscrewed from Black Handle Assembly to clean resistor.)
2. Know the location of all high voltage points in the equipment under test, before any measure- ments are attempted
3. Insure that help is vailable. Inform someone that you are making a high voltage measurement.
4. Work with one hand. Avoid contact between any part of the body and any object which can pro- vide a ground.
5. Hands, shoes, bench, and floor must be com- pletely dry. When arking on a cement floor stand on a rubber mat or equivalent insulating material.
6. Always expect the unexpected. High voltage may appear at almost any point in a defective power supply.
7. When servicing television receivers, remember that many picture tubes have conductive coat- ings which act as a capacitor, thus a high voltage charge may be present even with the receiver turned off.
8. High voltage discharges from point to point or from point to air (corona). Always grasp the voltage tester by the handle and keep the disc barriers between the high voltage test point and your hand.
9. Never depend upon the insulation of a high volt- age lead on the set being tested for protection

INSTRUCCIONES DE OPERACIÓN

ADVERTENCIA:
Las fuentes de alimentación de alto voltaje generan potenciales extremadamente peligrosos. Se debe tener mucho cuidado al medir cualquier voltaje alto, especialmente aquellos que no se generan a partir de un tipo de RF operado por pulsos o de RF.
